From the Pastor's Desk
This month is a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. I am so thankful that Jesus was willing to come into this world so that we could be saved. There is so much that could be said this month about Christmas, but I know I have limited space. A lot of people see this time of the year as a time to give and receive gifts, a time to be with family and celebrate the wonderful birth of Christ. We all like receiving gifts but to me giving is more important. Acts 20:35 says “remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” I believe if we will keep this scripture in mind, we won’t find ourselves complaining because we don’t like what someone gave us. Someone said, “It’s the thought that counts”, with that in mind when was the last time you thought about what someone went through to get the gift for you? The focus should be on the thought, not so much what the gift may be or how much it cost. Some gifts become priceless not because of what they cost but because someone cared enough to remember you and show an expression of their love. As a grandparent, the most expensive gift in the world does not compare to your grandchild drawing or coloring you a picture that says, “Merry Christmas, I love you.” Sure the crayon marks may be all over the page, but when you take time to think about who and why it was done, you see the love that makes that gift priceless. How can we think about gifts without reflecting on the greatest gift that has ever been given? John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This gift did not come cheap and without a price yet it is free to those that accept it. God loved us so much that he said this gift is for “whosoever,” this means every one. When we stop and think about all that Jesus did for us we can’t help but see his love for us, on the other hand if we don’t take time to think about what Jesus went through and the price he paid for us, God’s gift to us may seem meaningless rather than priceless.
