From the Pastor's Desk

November is the time of the year where we begin looking forward to the holiday season.  A time where we get together with friends and family and share fabulous feasts and stories of the past, create memories for the future, and cherish the blessing of having each other another year.  It’s a time that people stop and count their blessings and give thanks for Gods grace, love and protection.  Psalms 107:1 says “give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”  This scripture is repeated several times in the book of Psalms.  The Lord is good!  He has provided so much for us.  Because of God’s love for us, through his son Jesus we have the promise of eternal life.  That is something to shout about!  God knew that man would someday become so exalted, thinking they no longer needed him, he had to make a way of escape for eternity.  Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  I’m thankful that the promise is for whosoever will.  Roman 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  I’m thankful that I have become a whosoever.  Someone said, “That is too easy and simple.”  God made it simple but man is the one that has complicated it.  He said “give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”  Mercy is something we don’t want to practice unless we are the one in need of the mercy.  God’s mercy endureth forever, when everyone else has given up on you, God still cares.

According to Webster, mercy implies compassion that forbears punishing even when justice demands it.  Even though we have been guilty of transgressing God’s laws and we deserve death, Jesus Christ said he would take the punishment. He died in our place so that we can be free and have life, and have it more abundantly.  His compassion of love towards us looks beyond our faults and sees our needs.  That doesn’t mean we can live any way we please and ignore our responsibilities, it means His mercy toward us endures forever.  Let every day be a day of Thanksgiving because God is Good.  “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”  1 Thess 5:18
